Religious Education
“We live in a rich multicultural world that needs unity, acceptance and mutual respect in order for peace to prevail. For that reason, at Langney Primary Academy we aim for our pupils to be knowledgeable about people’s faiths and everyday lives and celebrate diversity. It is our desire for pupils to use this knowledge to begin to inform their own identity and set of values.”

INNOVATION IN RE
At Langney Primary Academy, R.E. (Religious Education) is taught following a comprehensive scheme of work entitled Discovery RE. This detailed scheme of work is aligned to the East Sussex Religious Education Agreed Syllabus and provides detailed medium term lesson planning from Nursery to Year 6.
This scheme adopts an enquiry approach to teaching R.E. covering Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam , Judaism and Sikhism. It supports teachings in SMSC, British Values, Anti-Radicalisation whilst promoting critical thinking skills, growth mindset and personal development.
We want our children to learn about the world religions through an enquiry based approach. This will give them knowledge of each religion and then require them to apply this knowledge to answer key questions rather than the knowledge being an end in itself.
BEING A CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN RE
Staff have access to a high quality R.E. scheme that provides teachers with all the knowledge and techniques of teaching the R.E. curriculum. Children are able to see and handle real artefacts that relate to their learning of R.E.

TALENT DISCOVERY OF PUPILS IN RE
The R.E. curriculum at Langney allows all our pupils, whatever their background, to be exposed to a wide variety of religious and cultural experiences and builds their knowledge of these. Our school values and the British Values of tolerance and mutual respect run throughout our teaching of R.E.
A BALANCE BETWEEN EXCELLENCE (STANDARDS) AND ENJOYMENT IN
RE
A BALANCE BETWEEN EXCELLENCE AND ENJOYMENT IN RE
Religious Education engages the children by relating the ‘bigger question’ to their own experiences and giving them a chance for personal reflection. For this reason we have chosen the Discovery R.E. scheme which poses questions to be investigated and develops children’s critical thinking and evaluation skills.

RAISING ASPIRATIONS & LIFE CHANCES IN RE
The lessons will teach tolerance and mutual respect of all beliefs that will set the children up for life in the real-world.
HEALTH & WELLBEING IN RE
We also want pupils to relate what they learn to their own experiences and beliefs. Through activities and thought provoking enquires the children stop and take notice of what their own beliefs are and what similarities they have with others.
